Alfredo sauce is a wonderful recipe and so simple to create that even a kid could do it. Which would explain why I am able to make this tasty pasta favorite. Just kidding but all joking aside this traditional chicken fettuccine Alfredo sauce is pretty easy to make.
Pasta is always a family favorite when it comes to Alfredo sauce but did you know you can also add this topping to meats as well? It can be used in so many different ways and on so many different things.
I will share my recipe and show you several different ways to enjoy this great home cooked sauce. I'll be serving mine up on Penne pasta today. It will definitely make you a few meals to be proud of. Perfect for a night of entertaining your friends or ideal for serving up for dinner to the family.
Alfredo sauce is actually just a basic white sauce with a few added ingredients. The first section of this is your basic cream sauce recipe then the second part magically transforms this into that world famous pasta topping we know and love.
2 heaping tbsp margarine
3-4 heaping tbsp cornstarch
1-2 liters milk
If you were looking for just a base white cream sauce for a soup, pudding, or main dish topping this is where you would end the recipe. It is this last 3 toppings that create the traditional Alfredo sauce taste.
2 tbsp parsley
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
Salt & Pepper to taste
1. Melt butter in a pot on medium heat
2. Remove from heat and add your cornstarch, blending it until smooth
3. Add your milk and put back onto the stove turning up the heat to med-high (stirring constantly)
4. Add your parsley, Parmesan and S&P
5. Once it is hot and has thickened you may use it at your discretion. If you find it is not thick enough for what you need, you can always add more cornstarch to it
*I don't actually measure my ingredients I free pour so these are only approximate measurements. As with any recipe the ingredients can all be adjusted according to your taste.
*This recipe makes a pretty big pot full of Alfredo. You can use it now, put it in the fridge to use later, or freeze it in small containers.

If it is summer I recommend using an electric skillet. An electric fry pan is ideal for those days when it's too hot to turn on the oven. They also make for easy cleanup with their no stick coating, just wipe with a little soap and water and voila, you have a clean pan (try that with your regular pans).
The Basic White Sauce can be Used for a Variety of Meals
Pick your favorite pasta any type will do. Or pick a few different ones and serve the pastas in bowls on the table and the Alfredo Sauce in another so that each person can pour it on top and have the pasta they prefer.
If you don't care for pasta but love that creamy Alfredo sauce you can always add it on top of chicken or pork and pop that in the oven to cook. Your meat will come out juicy and delicious every time.
Pssst...topping it off with some cheese turns good into absolutely fabulous.
