Gift Giving Made Easy
Giving Flowers:
Daisy's are given to represent innocence, an apple blossom as a promise of something more to come, a forget-me-
not given to remember someone by, a lilac meaning first love and of course the rose as our traditional symbol of love.
Roses were so popular that each shade of rose came to represent a different emotion or reason to be given. Red as a symbol of love or beauty, White for purity or innocence, Pink to show appreciation or represent grace/elegance, Yellow as a sign of friendship, Orange as desire, lavender to show one's enchantment or love at first sight, and black - representing death or farewell.
Flowers that were in season were often given as a gift to welcome a new baby into the family. Over time these seasonal flowers came to represent or be termed the 'birth flower' for the month in which they were generally given in.
BIRTH STONES AND BIRTH FLOWERS
MONTH STONE FLOWER
January Garnet Snowdrop / Carnation
February Amethyst Primrose/ Violet
March Aquamarine Violet / Jonquil
April Diamond Daisy / Sweetpea
May Emerald Lily of the Valley/Hawthorn
June Pearl Rose / Honeysuckle
July Ruby Waterlily / Larkspur
August Peridot Gladiolus / Poppy
September Sapphire Morning Glory / Aster
October Opal Calendula / Cosmos
November Topaz Chysanthemum
December Turquoise Poinsettia / Holly
If you take the time to discover, and include a person's birthstone or birth flower in their gift item, it shows that you have taken that little extra time to find something that is unique to them. For example: You might buy Hana a rose scented perfume because she was born in June. For Alex, who was also born in June, you might purchase a pearl handled fishing knife. This little added touch shows that you have cared enough to investigate and search for something personal for the one you care about.
